Ingredients
- For the Filling
- Bramley apples 1 kg
- Caster sugar 50 g
- Ground cinnamon 1 tsp
- Lemon juice 1 tbsp
- For the Crumble Topping
- Plain flour 175 g
- Cold unsalted butter, cubed 100 g
- Caster sugar 75 g
- Rolled oats 50 g
Method
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C fan/Gas Mark 5).
- Peel, core, and chop the apples into roughly 2cm chunks. Place them in a medium ovenproof dish.
- Sprinkle the 50g of caster sugar and ground cinnamon over the apples. Add the lemon juice and toss gently to combine.
- In a separate mixing bowl, add the plain flour and cubed cold butter. Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
- Stir in the 75g of caster sugar and the rolled oats into the breadcrumb mixture.
- Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples in the dish.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is tender and bubbling.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with custard, cream, or ice cream.
