Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan/Gas Mark 6).
  2. Slice the bread horizontally, but not all the way through, so it stays connected at the bottom.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, finely chopped garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Carefully spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut surfaces of the bread.
  5. If using, sprinkle the grated Parmesan-style cheese over the butter mixture.
  6. Wrap the bread tightly in aluminium foil.
  7. Place on a baking tray and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Unwrap the foil and bake for a further 3-5 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.
