Spring Crumble with Apples

Ingredients
- For the crumble topping
- Plain flour 150g
- Cold unsalted butter, cubed 75g
- Caster sugar 50g
- Rolled oats 50g
- For the apple filling
- Medium cooking apples (e.g. Bramley), peeled, cored and sliced 4 large (approx. 600g)
- Caster sugar 50g
- Lemon juice 1 tbsp
- Ground cinnamon 1 tsp
- Lemon zest 1 tsp
Method
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C fan/Gas Mark 5).
- To make the crumble topping, rub the cold, cubed butter into the plain flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
- Stir in the caster sugar and rolled oats until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with the caster sugar for the filling, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and lemon zest.
- Pour the apple mixture into a medium ovenproof dish (approx. 20cm x 15cm).
- Evenly scatter the crumble topping over the apples.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is tender and bubbling.
