Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C fan/Gas Mark 5).
  2. To make the crumble topping, rub the cold, cubed butter into the plain flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir in the caster sugar and rolled oats until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with the caster sugar for the filling, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and lemon zest.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into a medium ovenproof dish (approx. 20cm x 15cm).
  6. Evenly scatter the crumble topping over the apples.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is tender and bubbling.
